DR. TAYLOR TARGETED BY BREC DISTRICT 4 CHAIR IN EMAIL REFERENCING HER AS ‘BLACK FEMALE, WITH MILITARY BACKGROUND AND DOCTOR DEGREE’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 20, 2024

This represents the darker side of politics, casting a shadow over the community so many proud Brevardians call home. Unfortunately, it's individuals and groups like these that propagate such negativity. I want to express my gratitude to the brave individuals who have come forward with this information, including the names of those involved.

To be clear, I am not the one introducing race into this discussion, but my racial identity has been made a political issue. Many of you know me as Dr. Ava Taylor, a Black woman with 18 years of active-duty service to our great nation and plans for retirement here in Brevard. I've never shied away from who I am, and I stand on my record of service and commitment to this community.

I've often wondered what makes me so intimidating to these individuals. Transparency is a cornerstone of my campaign, and I am fully committed to being open and honest with you about my goals to bring positive change to our school board. It's time to shed light on who my opponent's backers are and the intentions driving them. This type of behavior has no place in our community or in America.

-Dr. Avenese Taylor, PhD
